FAQs

What is the Bexley Teaching School Alliance?

We are a group of schools and other partners who work collaboratively to raise standards in schools and improve the life chances for children.  Bedonwell Infant and Nursery School is designated as a National Teaching School, by the NCTL. Working together with a number of partner schools, universities and our Local Authority, we have formed the Bexley Teaching School Alliance, sharing our services, knowledge and resources.

What are our main areas of work?

Teaching schools are part of the Government’s drive to give schools more freedom and take increasing responsibility for improving the school system. Our six main areas of work are:

  1. School DIrect (Initial Teacher Training)
  2. CPD
  3. School to School Support (S2S)
  4. Leadership development
  5. Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs)
  6. Research and development (R&D)

Can anyone join our alliance?

Our alliance includes primary, secondary and special schools from Bexley and the surrounding areas. We welcome all schools to join our alliance free of charge. Please contact Natalie Palin (Teaching School Leader) at npalin@thebedonwellfederation.org for further information

Why are we called the Bexley Teaching School Alliance?

Our strategic partner schools are all based in Bexley, hence the 'Bexley Teaching School Alliance'. Bedonwell Infant and Nursery School are accountable for the alliance's work, including the success criteria and performance against each of the teaching school core areas, as well as governance arrangements. We are a not for profit organisation.

Do we have to be a Bexley school to join the alliance?

You do not have to be based within the Bexley Local Authority to join our alliance. We welcome all schools.

What will being a BTSA member involve?

Alliance members work collaboratively to drive improvements in standards through sharing services, knowledge and resources.

Membership could consist of:

a) providing school to school support e.g. CPD, coaching, SLE/NLE work etc.

b) accessing the skills and expertise of other alliance members.

How does the BTS organise governance?

The Bexley Teaching School Alliance has a Management board that includes strategic partners and meets termly to discuss key issues. This board governs all BTSA functions and services.
